Varshidaan by Swami

After several years, when Simandhar Swami was now old enough, one day the Celestial beings approached him and requested him to renounce his worldly life and take diksha for the salvation of the world. He humbly accepted their wishes and for a whole year after that he continuously began to donate freely from the kingdom's treasury with his own hands. This act of giving is called varshidaan. Finally, on Fagan Sudi Trij (third day of Fagan month before the full moon), Lord Simandhar Swami renounced all the worldly pleasures and set off into the jungles. This was the time when Lord Rama's father King Dashratha was the reigning king in his world. This also was the time between the existence of the twentieth tirthankara Munishivrat Swami and the twenty-first tirthankara, Shri Neminath. At the time of his renouncement, he attained the fourth type of gnan called Manaparyay Gnan (being able to read mental intent of everyone.
