The Later Monster

Dhruvin had a favorite word: “LATER.” Mom: “Homework?”, Dhruvin: “Later.” “Pack your School bag?”, “Later.” "Clean up your room?", "Later." He thought, "I will do it quickly later, I'll get it done". As the 'Laters' piled up, a tiny Later Monster suddenly appeared, right on his schoolbag.

His "play first, work later" habit resulted in a messy room, missing schoolbooks, mistakes in his homework. Between the misplaced assignments and the vanishing pencils, Dhruvin’s life was becoming a mountain of unfinished business—and he was constantly in trouble because of it.

Class monitor: "Make sure to update your reading log.", Dhruvin: “LATER” Teacher: "Your library book?", Dhruvin: “Shoot." His school bag was not packed, and he was charged late fees for that blunder. Fueled by Dhruvin's latest blunders, the Later Monster was doubling in size.

Dhruvin’s "LATER" habit kept growing. Teacher: “All wrong, do it again!" Dhruvin thought to do it later. When he got his science work all wrong, his homework doubled, but he'd pushed it off again. As times grew tougher, the creature blossomed like a dark cloud, peaking out of his bag to see what else Dhruvin would delay.

The echos of 'Later. Later. Later.' grew. The pile grew, the mess spread, and time simply ran out. With every "FAIL," disappointment clouded his home. Dhruvin was miserable, while his room’s chaos became the perfect hide out for the Later Monster, hiding in plain sight.

Dhruvin was up late every night. Struggling, yawning and crying. His exhausion peaking, and now even easy work felt like climbing Mt Everest! “I can’t do this!”, Dhruvin felt like giving up.

The homework, the mess, the stress—it was getting too much. How do I get out of this? His teacher’s warning rang in his mind: “Every time you say LATER, a monster grows.” Dhruvin froze, realisation hitting him hard. “Wait,” he whispered, “I've created this monster!”

His teacher also adviced, “Just take up one little task at a time and complete it sincerely.” Dhruvin could see two clear choices: Path 1: Say “LATER", and the monster grows BIGGER OR Path 2: Start with a small task, complete it and the monster loses power. He knew which path he had to go on.

Dhruvin made a task list and crossed before each one as they got done: X : Science Worksheet X : Math's Homework X : Reading Log X : Pack Schoolbag : Clean up room : Go to Play "Phew, I'm making progress and chipping away. I can do it!"

Dhruvin finally recognized his problem, found its solution too. Never fed the LATER Monster again by saying 'LATER'. Everything started feeling easier, and eventually faster too. He had plenty of time for his hobbies and friends, but best of all he never got in trouble again!
